ISO: ISO chicos - dried smoked corn. Anyone living in the Southwest, have you seen them at your stores?

I have tried and failed to find them online. I bought some last year at the Santa Fe farmer's market and just used up the last of them this week in posole stew. Waa!

If anyone has seen them, would you consider sending me a package? They aren't cheap so I'd pay you of course via paypal or cheque or what have you...

If you aren't familiar with them, they are different than posole or hominy, they are better!! I enjoyed writing about them on my site this week too.

Mercy Buckets!!

I'll keep my eyes open. Have you tried Mexican or Latin markets in your area?

We have some Mexican markets here in Vacaville so I will check them out.

I will have one of my friends in San Diego check for you. She

has a lot of dried legumes, veggie-type sources. I will let you know. They sound wonderful!

Oh interesting, when I looked on Amazon it was out of stock.

and the wholesale place I looked at too but I can't buy in quantity! It's just l'il ole me...

The markets in the Mission district here don't carry chicos, only hominy.

Thanks everyone for looking!! I might order some from Amazon.

Heather - don't let wholesale 'scare' you away

When I really want something, I go ahead and contact wholesalers and see if they can help me in locating someone who buys the product & might sell me a smaller quantity. And you never know, I've had them send me large but fairly manageable quantities for free or a little of nothing.

Also, if there's a resto in your area that uses them, talk to the chef & ask if he'll sell you some.

My guess is, they'll be so flattered you ask, they may just give you some! Cooking at home vs. cooking at a resto, chefs understand the challenges (and the cost) of locating specialty ingredients and will be sympathetic. Just ask. You never know... smileys/smile.gif
