Richard, the cakes are indeed different that the regular Norwegian cakes.
The traditional cakes here are chocolate cake with a frosting filling, or cream cake - which is a regular bundt cake split in two, with a layer of cream and fruit in the middle and cream and fruit or chocolate or streusel on top.
Carrot cake has recently become popular here, but the Maple walnut cake and orange cake are very unusual. (For some reason, we have a tradition for swirl cakes but they are not as good as the one I got a recipe for here.)
Also, we have a tradition for jello rolls but they are considered "old fashion" now.
When people ask me to cook, they know they are not getting the "regulars".
I made home made pesto 15 years ago, years before you could buy it in a store here, and people had never heard of or tasted it before I served it to them.
But the feed back has been great so far. The Maple walnut cake got raving reviews and one person asked for the recipe for the orange bundt cake.
I always try recipes in private before I make them for company or give them away, and what my SO likes, most people love! (He ate most of my Lebkuchen so I knew they had to be popular world wide *LOL*)
