Just bought a new slow-cooker and have no cookbook. I can wing-it for some things, but would like some specific recipes. Do you guys have any favorite cookbooks? The one I did look at was William Sonoma's and it didn't really contain recipes that the everyday cook would make often. I want good recipes and I don't care how many ingredients...but I want recipes that aren't too pretentious or that contain hard-to-find items. My husband has to eat too. Thanks!

My Favorite is Crockery Cookery by

Mable Hoffman. Published by HP Books. This is an older book (1975) so I don't know if it is still available.

Also, the cooking times are probably for the older slow cookers which were not as hot as those sold today. It works for me since my slow cookers are of the older variety (like myself). New cookers might take a little less time.

The recipes and ingredients seem to meet your needs.

I'm with BobbiJoAZ- Mabel Hoffman is the queen of slow cookers for me and

here are some other good books:

The Best Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever- Natalie Haughton
Sunset's Crockery Cookbook
The Ultimate Slow Cooker Cookbook- Carol Heding Munson

I just went to allbookstores.com and found that Mabel Hoffman has

two newer books for crockery they are:

Healthy Crockery Cookery
by Mable Hoffman
Paperback - May 1998
List price: $15.95

Mable Hoffman's Complete Crockery Cookery
by Mable Hoffman
Hardcover - June 2000
List price: $12.49

Best Crockpot Cookbooks......

I really love Fixt it and Forget it Cookbook and their second book Fix it and Forget it for Entertaining by Phyllis Pellman Good and Dawn J Ranck. They combine different recipes that are not your ordinary meat and potatoes kind of old crockpot recipes, kind of like a community cookbook with the peoples names; but different things. Everything I have tried, except one recipe was excellent...I am probably on my third crockpot by now and truly love these two books.

I am SO trying not to buy another cookbook and there are such

excellent sites on the internet for recipes. My problem with crockpot cookbooks is that they "try" to make recipes fit the crockpot--like lasagna, for example--or baking cakes. Probably there are better examples, but some things just don't fit a crockpot to me.
