Here are the ingredients I used:
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
3 sliced carrots (I added this)
3 stalks celery (I added this)
6 stalks kale (I added this)
6 cloves garlic
2" piece ginger, peeled
6 TBL clarified butter
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
2 teaspoons chili powder (I used 1 tsp)
6 1/4 cups water
2 cups black lentils
1/2 C masoor dal (red) lentils (which I used in place of kidney beans, which I despise more than mammograms)
1 cup tomato sauce
**I added two teaspoons Harissa
At the end, add:
2 TBL garam masala (I only used 2 tsp; much less than in recipe)
2 teaspoons paprika (I forgot to add this)
1/2 cup light cream (I used heavy and skipped the final milk and butter)
I used a packaged garam masala because the last one I made from scratch used TBLs of cayenne and I ruined two dishes. So I was a little wary this time. But it's definitely missing something.
