My son's MIL served shrimp for an appetizer this weekend that were so tasty, even without any cocktail sauce. Here in Baltimore the shrimp are always steamed, generally with Old Bay, but these had no spices on them. When I asked her how she made them, she said that she just cooked them in Vinegar. No response to Vinegar mixed with water. Can anyone tell me about cooking shrimp this way? Thanks a bunch

That sounds a lot like ceviche. where fish/shellfish is "cooked" with a lemon or lime juice marinade

I would think you could do the same with vinegar, as it should be acidic enough.

I am curious about this now, and will have to go Google some recipes!

You may be right...

Now that you say that, my son said something to the effect that sometimes her shrimp don't taste as though they have been cooked.

When I did a quick Google, the recipes seemed to say to add other ingredients. Perhaps she just used the vinegar and nothing else.
