ISO: ISO: Japanese custard.... looks like flan?

DH had this before in Japanese restaurants - he said it's like an egg custard - looks like flan - and there is something drizzled on top. Anyone know what it's called?

 
Chawan-mushi is savory -- the Japanese cookbook I have

has shrimp, chicken thighs and shiitakes in the recipe, and dashi, mirin and soy in the custard base.
