I just wanted to thank you for reminding me about Julia Child. We're inundated with new chefs and cookbooks, and it's easy to forget our old standbys. After seeing the recipes you posted, I dug out my Julia Child cookbooks. As a result, our gourmet group did an "Evening with Julia Child" dinner this weekend, and it was truly wonderful. Her directions and tips are so clear that everyone could easily cook their assigned recipes. If you are up to crepes again, the dessert Gateau Mont-Saint Michel (French Crepes layered with Apples and Burnt Almond Cream) is delicious.

Thanks again for all the great recipes and guidance you've posted.

Thanks, KC. Reminding people about Julia's recipes seems to be my calling, LOL...

She was the best teacher--I know that after I bought my first of her books, with such clear technical information, all my other cookbooks began to make more sense.

I'm so glad your party was a success, and I'm thrilled if I had something to do with the inspiration. I hope someone in your group did a good Julia impression when it came time to flambe that cake!

After seeing her kitchen and the display at the Smithsonian...

earlier this month, I was inspired to get the "origial" Julia's out again (since they were such a prominent part of the display). I've been reading through these this month and getting to know them all over again. They are simply an amazing resource ("Mastering the Art of French Cooking, vols. I & II). I know the newer books with the glossy pix are very popular, but the wealth of knowledge contained in these original tomes with B&W print and line drawings are an amazing resource.

They're right up there on my top shelf beside the Joy of Cooking--also another amazing resource.

If you haven't already read "Appetite for Life," the biography of Julia Child by Noel Riley Fitch,

check it out. The story of how those books came to be (and almost didn't) is really something!

Yes, great read- and another but very different book "Julie And Julia", about a

young lady who cooked her way through every recipe in Julia Child's "Mastering The Art of French Cooking".

And I have just started "My Life In France"...

the book that she and her nephew were collaborating on at the time of her death that has just been released.
