those little planes.....ek is net vet! What a bountiful country this is.

My sister had me make a paella tonight. Well that is fine, all the wonderful ingedients are here, fresh chicken, clams, shrimp and crayfish tails. BUT then I find the saffron...she has been given As A GIFT...a kilo of SAFFRON from Iran!!!!!!!! my goodness, do you think I can zip a TBL or 2 of it to this back to the island with me. This is the most exqeeeeeeeesiAt stuff I have ever had in my life......it smells divine and the flavour is the REAL stuff.

Does she have a vacuum sealer? If not find a place that will seal it

and generally they will not care - a good thick poly bag that is 'commercially' sealed is usually allowed. That is how I have brought spices back. I can usually find some vendor with one and pay them a couple of bucks to do it for me.

There used to be a chain in the shopping centres that would seal things in a can for you

I so nearly tried to bring biltong back in that. A kilo of saffron! What a princely gift.

Everyone laughs at me because when I go back, I return

with a suitcase literally full of food. I was worried about the cans of pickled fish, but customs let those through without a murmur. But I just about wept at the sight of all those half lambs in Woolworths that I couldn't buy or cook or bring back with me.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Yes, nicely cut up. Woolworths is a high-quality store there.

I also miss the baby vegetables - they were always top quality and affordable. I believe they aren't really affordable any more, which is a pity, but I still yearn after them.
