was told to send nothing made with butter or p'nut butter and no nuts. Said they told her that because of the long period between baking and eating (and the extreme heat), they would end up with rancid cookies.

Am frantically searching for Crisco and no nut recipes!!

Have you been told this?

Hmmmm- allspice and nutmeg sniffing dogs maybe? Applicable info inside.

home-baked treats should not contain allspice or nutmeg - spices are considered aphrodisiacs.

No butter, margarine, peanut butter or nuts should be used. These fats will go rancid too fast in the high heat. Butter flavored vegetable shortening is a better alternative.

No brown sugar, corn sugar, honey, or molasses should be used. The baked goods will be too soft and possibly become moldy. Only white table sugar should be used.

Baked goods should be wrapped tightly in aluminum foil, which provides the best barrier against humidity.

Hi Cyn, Lisa posted the Nestle link in the original ISO request for volunteers

I've been a little intimidated as well...wondering about the right type to make. Since the last batch got there so quickly (6 days!), my brain was still in normal cookie mode.

Was going to do an ANZAC biscuit, but I've just checked the recipe and it has butter too! Now I'm confused...always thought that was a war cookie.

My Marine contact at work has been out for 20 days on vacation and then sick leave. I've got to get some dates final with her before I start giving out dates here.

Do you suppost the heat is that much of an issue in December? I looked up Baghdad climate, and the

average maximum temperature is 18 degrees C. or about 65 degrees F. in December. It's rainy and humid though.

I think at this time of year, the heat won't be so much of a factor, it would be the possible

lengthy shipping time. I know the USPS really picks up the pace in mid-November for the holiday rush, but the possible lead time for the baked goods is still going to be at least a couple of weeks from oven to soldier.
