Michael, what did you decide to do about your mixer? Did you send it in for repairs? Can you tell me if you do send it in do they send you a refurb one as a replacement? And, do you think it would be one with plastic parts? I ask because of this video about repairing a mixer that won't spin anymore. It uses a plastic gear replacement. Are the gears in the 20 yr old models all metal?

Thanks for any info you can share!

Barbara, I don't know if you saw my post a couple of weeks ago. I found out from KA...

...that the Pro 600 Series has all-metal gears and is built today exactly like the older models. It is one of the most expensive in their line, but it seems to be well built.

I am still using my old one. I plan to ask A LOT more questions if I decide to send it in. I don't want plastic/nylon gears.

I'll let you know if I do it. I want to budget for a Pro 600 first, so I won't be without one.

Michael

Love those videos though. I may take mine apart just to see if I can put it back together. (Wonder

what you do with left-over pieces, though?)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Since my old one has been making funny noises...

...I was thinking about taking it apart (thanks to Barbara's video link) and checking the gears. I was thinking of calling some parts suppliers ahead of time to see if I can get metal gears for it.

I still need a bigger one, so I plan to buy the Pro 600 when I have the cash. I'll get the old one fixed and keep it for smaller jobs.

Michael

If you find out anything let us know...I've not been oh so happy with my KA

- also the 600 won't fit under my upper cabinets - I measured so had to go with the tilt model. It's going to get interesting if I try to start doing a lot of bread dough.

Michael, if you take it apart will you please let me know if it is plastic or metal? I

think I have the same mixer as you do. And, I was also thinking of taking it apart to see if the gears are metal or not.

Mine is making funny noises, only groans a lot with I mix a heavier batter like oatmeal cookies or the giant batch of Mrs. Fields chocolate chip ones.

I am not happy with the most recent on line reviews that I have read. And I have never been partial to the bowl lift model so I would really prefer to keep my current mixer!

theres a great video online that show how to repack the grease in your KA ---

Over time, the mixing motion causes the grease to fly to one side leaving the gears on the other side to begin grinding. The process is easy although new grease is about $25, still saves you a lot of money
