Any ideas to liven up 24 hours of consomme, light-colored jello, and pop?

Thanks in advance.

One suggestion

I suggest that you get some lemon-lime gatoraid. The doctors had me take a colon x-ray later in the same week they did a colonoscopy. Those liquids without a balance of minerals landed me in emergency in the middle of the night after the x-rays. The doctor said my electrolytes were out of balance. Fortunately they caught it in time to reverse the problem.

Sorry to say I have some suggestions...

My instructions (for a fun-filled adventure in two weeks) reads: clear liquid diet for entire day before procedure. Nothing with red or purple coloring, no alcohol, no cream, no dairy. Clear liquids allowed are apple juice, white grape juice, tea/coffee (no cream) Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Gatorade, bouillon/broth, popsicles, clear hard candy, water, soft drinks including diet or regular, clear, orange and cola.

Your patient has my sympathy.

I don't think there is a way to liven it up. I had the lesser version

last year (where you don't get sedated) and you just get through it.

Fortunately there is a wonderful Mexican joint next to the clinic and I could pig out afterward. Make a similar plan with your friend.

And at this risk of sounding like Katie Couric, anyone over 50 who hasn't had the exam, make an appointment! Colon cancer is preventable, but you have to have the exam.

Popsicles, in a variety of flavors. And if your friend is required to drink the

GoLitley ( what a stupid name for this stuff!!!) before drinking, add a couple of packets of lemonade flavor Crystal Light. The first time I drank it plain with a chaser of apple juice. Couldn't drink apple juice again for YEARS!! Last time with the Crystal Light wasn't as bad. No pulp either!

Good luck!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your reminder about this screening...

especially if there is a family istory.

Really the procedure itself is nothing---you are doped and can't feel a thing. The prep

is the "pain in the bu$$" of the whole thing. But if you eat light for a few days, it is not so bad. If you are under 50, some insurance companies don't want to cover it---unless your doc makes a good case for a family history etc.

Cyn is right! I used just a little Crystal Lite every time I had to drink that awful "GoLitely"...

It made it so much better! And to repeat what others have said....do not put this exam off! It is so important and it's painless. The first one I ever had, I talked about my recipes for grilling lamb through the procedure! You can also view the whole thing on a TV monitor if you want. My doc puts on any kind of music I want...and the last exam I had I slept through most of it. (They make you so relaxed.) The only thing I would really stress is to do this with a colon-rectal specialist. They know what they're doing.

My Doc has prescribed Visicol tablets instead of the GoLitely liquid...

The first time I had this, 5 years ago, I used the liquid and it was awful. My Doc's nurse said the tabs are much better. I'll find out soon if she was right! Yes, the procedure is a piece of cake. The prep is the hard part. Thanks to all for discussing a very important subject.

Choose stuff that you don't mind hating for a long timre after. I could not stomach apple juice ...

and jello for months afterwards.
