I thought I should consult an expert before giving up.

I have a question about verithane (sp?) I just saw an art deco piece that I love and it's a good price. the finish was coated with verithane. Don said that once you do that the piece is ruined and can never be re-finished if necessary, like if it gets a scratch or something. is that true? do I forget about the piece?

thanks dalrin smileys/smile.gif

i suspect that don's right. i'm not directly familiar with varathane, but applying a hard finish...

is begging for eventual crazing. you could rub out a scratch with much patience, but i don't trust it not to craze. you'd see right away, but the polymer finishes are often slopped on.

you're always best off looking for original condition.

thanks Rick. it's just a light coating, not a thick layer like you often see.....

we weren't shopping for furniture, just schoomzing around and found this beautiful piece. it's a 53" credenza and at $225 I thought it was a deal. it is beautiful but if it's going to be a problem, probably not worth it.

thanks for the expert consultation smileys/smile.gif
