I omitted the nutmeg (not a big fan) and added 1/4 teaspoon cardamom. Will be trying it out to sweeten a cup of hot tea in the morning (even tho it's h-o-t and our a/c is out!).

Thanks! This will make a great little gift, too. The 1/2+ cup fits nicely in a little grated cheese server I found at Publix. Bonus!

Glad you liked it - and the gift idea sounds wonderful! Is it those glass dishes with the spoon?

If it's what I'm thinking of, that would make a lovely gift! Good idea - I might just steal that!

I used the Toast Dope on some blueberry muffins - sprinkled it on before baking and it was delish. Loved the crunchy sugar, and I liked the hint of orange flavor it added.

I gave some to a friend, and she asked me what it was called. Felt too silly to call it Toast Dope, so I told her it was Orange Cinnamon Sugar.

But just doesn't sound as fun, does it? Oh well, Toast Dope it is smileys/smile.gif

Actually, it's like the salt and pepper shakers you see in this link...

except it's got more of a grenade shape and holds 1/2 cup. The holes are big enough for the grated orange zest to come out easily. I can not find a picture of it on the internet - driving me nuts, but this will have to do!

p.s. I'm with you - Toast "Dope" is fun, but I guess inside I don't want to make light of giving "dope" to my friends that have kids. After all, what will the parents then tell the kids they have on their morning toast?!

toast dope sounds like something i need to know about....

if stuck on a deserted island, toast would be up there on my list of things necessary for survival. loooove toast. can you re-share the recipe, or can i look it up somehow?

Well...

The shaker is of the same design, glass carving (square) and plastic top as the link I provided for S&P shakers. Must be in the same design line. Because of the square design on the glass, bloated shape, and handle on top, it really does look like a grenade. The one you provided would be easier to use since it can be difficult holding open the flip top AND shaking at the same time. The holes appear to be about the same size and the photo of the one you showed.

Nice gift basket: loaf of white-wheat bread (to be healthy (wink)), some Land o' Lakes butter, nice butter knife, and some toast dope ready to go! Think I'll go try some now!

Debbie

i need to brainstorm on this one a while - can't begin to think where that recipe is...

it may have been as simple as orange zest mixed with soft unsalted butter and kept in fridge. i'll have a hunt for it this week.

Please don't go to any trouble - thought it might be something you'd remember.

Please just post it when/if you run across it.

Debbie

p.s. Enjoy the "dope!"
