dinner tonight!

I've been organizing hundreds of recipes that I packed up for no extra charge from Philly recently. Mind you, destructo dog Woofus has gotten into them over the past few years and so they were either chewed-up or totally deorganized thanks to him...

I came upon your recipe last night that I printed on 3/22/04 and tried it out tonight.

I followed the recipe but just added two more (total of smileys/bigeyes.gif wild 16-25 ct. Key West pink shrimp that I bought at Sweetbay Supermarket. I only added three small sprinkles of cayenne pepper for FloriDad's sake so as not to be too spicy.

The onions turned out to be caramelized which was a treat - did you cook them down as well? To answer your question, yes, I added minced garlic and I could taste it in the sauce. My Dad is so finicky and he actually liked it. (He'd rather have junky fast food than eat healthy and flavorful food so I don't go out of my way too much anymore...).

I just served a can of whole green beans to go with it (probably the only veggie Dad likes) and your recipe was a hit with us!

Thanks Sandra!

Edited to say that the direct link doesn't work but I've copied it below:

Sandra in London: REC: Shrimp with Spicy Garlic Lemon Soy Sauce

Here is what I just made for dinner - it was delicious, but as I copy into here, I just realized that I am an airhead today and left out the garlic...THE GARLIC!!!!! Anyway, it was very good even without it, and I also added a few scallops into the mix... If anyone makes it with the garlic, please let me know how it goes! Shrimp with Spicy Garlic Lemon Soy Sauce Recipe By : Nobu Matsushida - Los Angeles Serving Size : 2 6 large shrimp -- cleaned 2 tablespoons olive oil -- + 1 teaspoon 1 whole onion -- sliced SAUCE 2 cloves garlic -- finely minced 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons sake -- flaming 2 tablespoons rice vinegar 2 tablespoons olive oil -- +1 teaspoon 2 tablespoons lemon juice cayenne pepper In large skillet or griddle heat olive oil. Place onion slices on the oil and soften until they start turning golden. Place shrimp over the onion slices. Cook over medium high heat until shrimp are almost pink and onions are brown. Mix all ingredients for the sauce and pour over the shrimp. Cook until shrimp are pink and then remove to a platter. Bubble and reduce the sauce until it coats the back of a spoon. Serve sauce over shrimp.

??

Did you flame the sake? When? Maybe I'm misreading the directions, but if it's mixed in with the sauce, wouldn't that prevent it from flaming?

Huh... I had totally forgotten about that recipe!

Thanks for reminding me and glad you liked it! I don't remember what I did with the onions, I probably did cook them down a bit more...

Pam, I probably flamed the sake and then poured it into the sauce mix...

Oh, forgot to mention.. I used mirin in lieu of sake - just like the yakitori I make

often that calls for a little of mirin or sake. Nope, no flames.
