laur and her sisters will be spending a week in charlestown this spring and it'd nice to have someone to tell 'em where to go.

as it were...

Good morning rvb

There is a myriad of things to do, depending on what you like.

There are several gardens that should be in bloom in the spring - Middleton would be my choice, but Cypress is different. Just driving around downtown and looking in the yards is also a gardener's delight.

If you are in to history, there is Ft Sumter, Fort Moultry, The Hunley ( the civil war sub recovered off the coast) and Patriots Point, home to the USS Yorktown and other naval museum pieces.

There are plenty of house tours down town and at some of the plantations. Carriage tours are fun, but because of the high volume of tourists, there is a lottery for which tour you take - some are way better that others. There are walking tours also.

There are several museums and an aquarium.

the Saturday morning Farmers' Market in Marion Square should be in full swing.

Now as for the food.....
Anson's, Cru Cafe, Slightly North of Broad, Cypress, High Cotton, Fish, The Oaks Steakhouse, Bookstore Cafe, Peninsular Grill and more. There is going to be a Cooking and Wine festival here in March.

I guess you can tell that I really like where I live.... If you can give me a little more specifics, I can make direct recommendations.

many thanks, sarah. i'll get back when i know dates. meanwhile,

is tasso available in charlestown anywhere? i can't find it in dc and with online sources the shipping tends to cost way more than the tasso (like $17.50 for a pound - UPS Ground!)

thanks again
