ISO: ISO thread about baking for troops stationed abroad

I seem unable to pull up the many threads (with recipes) related to Marilyn's baking for the troops project.

This is all I seem to remember:

-- use Crisco instead of butter

-- avoid nuts, because they go rancid

-- avoid vanilla, and other alcoholic flavorings

Does anyone have any tried and true recipes that will survive the time delay? I have the Nestle brownie recipe adapted for the Middle East.
