Seeing Diane's recipe reminded me of one a friend gave me 36 years ago, and is now long lost. It used very small shell macaroni, a can of tuna fish, mayo, and maybe celery. I can't remember except that it was easy and good. Can anyone remember anything like that from around 1970? Thanks!

Tuna and Macaroni Salad.

1 lb. macaroni cooked and drained
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 10 oz. bag frozen peas
2 stalks celery chopped
1/2 large onion chopped
2 cans albacore tuna, drained
Dressing:
2 cups mayo
1/4 cup french salad dressing
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Combine first 6 ingredients. Combine dressing ingredients. Pour over the macaroni mixture and toss; refrigerate.
This recipe is a variation of a friends recipe.
Can change the tuna to chopped ham.
Mayo may be adjusted to suit your taste.
Either way it's yummy!

Go to thread # 6598, I posted my Macaroni Salad, just add tuna if you want to. Enjoy

check on the bag of "salad macaroni". I think a recipe used to be on one of the brands.

Salad macaroni is smaller than elbow, looks like those plastic beads that kids make bracelets out of. I think it had pickle relish added to it. dianne's salad would be a good starting point, adding a bit of pickle relish and the tuna.

You all gave me the idea to have this salad for dinner tonight. I added sundried tomatoes..I picked

up a jar of olives recently stuffed with feta cheese...I added those, along with some albacore tuna, italian parsley and some seasoned salt. The macaroni I had inhouse is the multi color spirals.

This salad is really delicious especially adding the sundried tomatoes and unusual olives.

While I don't normally use this - the very best mac and tuna salad I've ever had contained

a bit of Miracle Whip in addition to the mayo in the dressing.

Having grown up in a MW only, mayo free home (I was deprived, I tell ya), I can't stand the thought of it straight. But mixed in with the other ingredients, it must be "that tangy zip of Miracle Whip" that really makes the dressing.
