Richard's Punch Bowl is renowned for its potent libations, but it's a red punch and with the number of people I'm having in on Thursday, I don't want glasses of red dye bombs teetering all over my carpets. I'm thinking about whipping up a big bowl of whisky sours or something similar but was wondering if someone had a nice old-fashioned high test punch without all the red. Thanks.

Richard, I have one at home that is based on green tea, ginger ale mixer and lots of frozen vodka.

So basically you have anti-oxidants battling with the scirosis terrorists.

Let me know.

Would love it.

I always put tea in my punches and had already bought some nice loose leaf green tea for the punch. Thanks!

I figure if my oven cannot be prepared in time to cook Thanksgiving dinner, the punch bowl will disguise that omission. ; )

Here is one my mother-in-law used to make. REC: Slush...

I can personally attest to it's wickedness. You could certainly play with this basic recipe to dress it up a bit.

For adaption - rec: Limoncello Mint Spritzers

** Giada's Limoncello Mint Spritzers **

A nice, refreshing simple drink from "Everyday Italian" with Giada De Laurentiis. Adapted because her version featured a homemade lime-based limoncello.

4 servings
time to make 5 min 5 min prep

2 cups limoncello (Italian lemon liqueur)
coarsely crushed ice cubes
1 cup fresh mint leaves
1 cup club soda
muddle sticks (or handle of wooden spoon)
1 lime, for garnish (optional)

1. Coarsely crush the ice cubes, then fill 4 tall skinny drink glasses halfway full with the ice.

2. Add 1/4 cup mint leaves to each glass and, using a muddle stick or the handle of a wooden spoon, crush the mint leaves together with the ice (this is called "muddling").

3. Add 1/2 cup limoncello to each glass, and stir.

4. Add 1/4 cup of club soda to the top of each drink, and serve.

5. Note: on the show, Giada made her own limoncello from limes rather than from lemon, vodka, and simple syrup, with a week or marinating; if you can find a lime-based limoncello in the store, wonderful (we've only made it ourselves at home) - but otherwise you can use conventional limoncello.

6. Also, you could quarter a lime and put each quarter on the edge of the glasses, so that guests could add a squeeze of lime juice into their spritzer.

I posted one at Gail's....Barbados Bowl. Very potent, rum and bananas. But it is

really tough. I have seen people get over-enthused with it and wipe out for the rest of the evening.

Also, how about a real egg nog bowl. With beaten yolks and separately beaten whites. Very delicious and white.

I'll go look for the other one.

Here ya go: "The Recipe"

7 C water
2 C sugar
4 green tea bags
2 C boiling water
1 12-oz frozen lemonade
1 12-oz frozen orange juice
2 C vodka
large bottle of 7-Up or favorite lemon-lime drink

Boil first two ingredients for 5 minutes to make simple syrup. Cool.

Steep tea bags in 2 C boiling water for 5 minutes. Cool.

When both are cool, mix with remaining ingredients and freeze for 24 hours. (Will never freeze solid.)

When ready to serve, add 7-Up to partially frozen vodka-mix to make it slushy.

Prepare for eminent brain freeze.

Marilyn's Note: This is fabulous at a hot, muggy 4th of July picnic in hot, muggy Pittsburgh. But I have no experience when frost is in the air and toes are roasting by the fireside.

REC: Barbados Bowl

8 med sized bananas
1 c. lime juice
1 c. sugar
1 fifth light rum
8 oz. 151 proof rum (no wonder there's a sudden kick)
1 qt. plus 12 oz. pineapple juice
12 oz. mango nectar
2 limes, sliced

Chill all ingredients except bananas. Cut 6 bananas into thin slices and blender with lime juice and sugar un til smooth. Add both rums, pineapple juice and mango nectar. STir well.

Let mixture ripen in frig 1 hour before serving. Cut remaining 2 bananas into thin slices. Float banana and lime slices on punch.

Note: this really is a tasty drink. It became expected at our home when we partied. Certainly, you could tone down the 151 proof if you want your guests alive for dinner.

Found another from a friend - Sven's " Recipe " - rec: Lemon Lime Bourbon Punch

** Sven's "Recipe" - Lemon Lime Bourbon Punch **

One of my friends in the SCA (who is also the Baron of Blatha an Oir), has been making this power-packed punch of a drink for years. His horn is usually full of it, and he's generous with the sharing. smileys/smile.gif He calls the drink simply "Recipe." I keep forgetting the formula, so I recently asked him for it, again. "It's a secret formula. I can tell ya, but then we gotta k... you know..." That Sven, such a kidder! smileys/wink.gif

time to make 5 min 5 min prep

12 ounces can frozen lemonade concentrate
12 ounces can frozen limeade concentrate
72 ounces cold water (6 "can-fulls" from the concentrates)
