the main ingredient green chiles or tomatillos? I want to make a recipe from here on the board that calls for the sauce and I've never seen it here. However, I do have two jars of Jardines salsas and am trying to decide which is the most appropiate. It probably doesn't matter, but would like to know which is in the canned.

Here you go Curious.

water, green chiles, cornstarch, soybean oil, salt, sugar, jalapeno pepper, hydrolized corn gluten, , soy protein, and wheat gluten, msg, corn syrup solids, citric acid, onion powder, spice and color, yeast extract, garlic powder, red pepper, acetic acid, distilled vinegar, natural flavor, artificial color, disodium inosinate, isodium guanylate...oh yum! accckkkk!
I think I will be making mine from scratch from now on. Granted, this is not the usual brand I buy, this is Old El Paso, and I usually buy Las Palmas, so hopefully the usual brand I buy is a little better. If not, I will be making my own from now on.

"If you can't find the green enchilada sauce, you might try pureeing 2 large cans chopped green chiles with some chopped raw onion, garlic, salt and pepper, dried oregano leaves, and ground cumin. Then add chicken broth. until mixture is the consistency of a thinned gravy."

Thanks Dawn, it's your recipe, lol! I'll use the Jardines green chile salsa instead of tomatillo.

I'm looking forward to making the Creamy Chicken Enchiladas this evening using some leftover roast chicken.

I have made green enchilada sauce using canned green chiles several times . . .

very easy in my VitaMixer. I use those giant cans of whole green chiles (I make alot) and freeze the leftovers sauce. Tasts good.

Sometimes the sauces with tomatillos are just too tart/salty. And besides I like green chiles wayyyyy more than tomatillos!

I noticed my salsa verde was a mix of chiles and tomatillos, it was good. The other jar I have is

a tomatillo salsa. May try it with this recipe also. I do like tomatillos, though.
