It only took a very short time to realize that I can not live without fresh herbs!

When we sold the house I had to sell all of my pots and plants because we have no yard space here in this Condo. I just have to have them! So we went through putting a grow light over the little pass through bar from the kitchen. I started with pots of rosemary, parsley, basil and chives. Only the chives made it. So we moved the next set to the window sill in the living room that gets lots of sun from sunrise on. Replaced the parsley, rosemary and basil 3 more time. The chives are gorgeous. So we bought a pot similar to the herb pots at the house and put in rosemary, basis, parsley and oregano and placed it in the garden area outside our front door. It looks nice and I don’t think anyone has noticed it and I’m not going to mention it. It’s been there for about 3 weeks and so far so good. Maybe as they meet me and find out my love for cooking they won’t reject it. The basil already needed to be cut back so I just made pesto a couple nights ago and it is really good basil. I think my canning cookbook has some recipes for herb jelly so maybe I should do some small jars of rosemary or basil jelly and give to neighbors? Hmmm…

Pics aren't the best but isn’t it starting out nice?

Why can't I get this photobucket link to work? I pasted the link

into both the image and the link url and neither work. What in the world am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure, Orchid, but

I just stripped off everything before "http://" and after ".jpg" and popped that in the Image line. It looks like extra html was added somehow (the img stuff in brackets) in the original link.

Still, a beautiful herb pot! smileys/smile.gif I can't imagine anyone objecting to it, even the strictest of HOA boards!

Lovely, orchid! I have the proverbial black thumb so nothing grows for me.

Even my sis has tried to help me and she can take a plant SCRAPING and grow anything *sigh*

They look lovely, orchid!

I have a garden, but haven't grown herbs for years. I think I need to do some weeding and seeding.

Beautiful! I did a couple of pots this year close to my kitchen. My herb garden

is out back in the veggie garden area, and when it is cold and rainy, I wanted to pick closer to the house. I have sweet basil growing inside, move it out to get any sun during the day. The cold has not bothered the potted herbs as they are under the protection of an oak tree. The marjoram and parsley are going crazy, chives are slowing down, and the lettuce is growing fast. I just tossed a few lettuce seeds in to see what would happen. Viola, they grew.
Beware, your rosemary will take over soon.

Yes, they can all take over quickly here in Fl. The basil and rosemary

especially like the hot summers here. I don't really think any of these will really be able to take over because they are all sharing the same pot and the depth isn't what the basil and rosemary would want I don't think. I think it will work out to be plenty for what I need. The parsley is already getting out of hand and I won't be able to use it fast enough. I always dry what I need and then I don't know what I'll do with overflow. At the house that was no problem. Every neighbor knew to come get from me. I encouraged it. I remember one time a neighbor came and said she needed some herbs please. I said sure, what do you want? She said her mother was visiting from Brazil and said she needed anything green. I loved it. I cut a little of everything. I wanted Mom to have on hand whatever she needed to cook. I don't think I'm gonna have that here.

Lana, weed it and then buy some little 4" pots of herbs that you can

find just about everywhere. Make your life more simple, skip the seeds.

Orchid, I'm so happy you've found a spot for your herbs...

I'm with you, can't live without them. I had a huge herb garden this year and every day when I started dinner, I ran outside with the scissor in hand to do some pruning.

But I always bring in chives, rosemary, sage, and the parsley keeps going outside through most of the winter (all of the parsley on pic of the pate en croute plate was harvested from my Cincinnati New Year's Eve garden).

Thanks Richard. I know it's partly that it ticks me off at the prices

of buying fresh herbs but probably more that when the, "Oh, I need a little parsley/rosemary/chives etc." I just want to go cut some. I have pared it down to what is essential. Chives, must have. Parsley, rosemary, basil, can't possibly do without. I planted the oregano because it drapes over the herb pot so beautifully and because I use so much dried oregano and when I can't keep up with the basil I dry it too. I use it dried often also. My problem is the parsley. I use fresh all the time but rarely use it dried and it is prolific. This is when neighbors come in handy. I hate throwing out anything! I used to have tarragon at the house also because it is so beautiful in the pot and puts out the prettiest yellow flowers. But I don't use it that often as it's not a favorite for John. I can get by with dried, even if I have to buy it.
