The snow is falling hard and fast in frozen Cincinnati. My work was closed at lunch and I picked up a passle of cookbooks I had ordered at the library on the way home, and for this cold frigid day, here is Mr. Thomas Jefferson's recipe from Paris for Coffee Custards...

Monticello Coffee Custards

Put in a pan 1 cup of very strong coffee and 1 cup milk. Bring to a boil. Beat 4 eggs and add 4 tablespoonfuls of sugar and a pinch of salt.

Add the hot milk, stir will, and pass through a strainer.

Fill custard cups with the mixture, set in a pan of water and bake until set.

how beautiful it must be! we had 5" on the 11th, the first time in 10 years it snowed here, awesome

Just got through shovelling another path for the Dachshund...

7 inches and counting. It's coming down faster than a 30's Christmas movie.

I don't know what these birdbrains are measuring...

But I just checked the weather and they're saying we'll get 8 inches. I just RESHOVELLED FOR THE FIFTH TIME the path to the poopplatz for the dachsund, stuck the yardstick in the smooth covering over the motorcourt and it said 11 inches. It's over the back of my dog (who is a big standard, not a miniature)! And the snow is still coming down!

But yes, the dachsund has finally pooped (very fussy dog) and all is right with the world.

sounds like you're getting socked in. I hope you are both home and safe and making warm drinks

to sip while you watch the falling snow.

there's still time to save you, boil water and make a hot, buttered rum.... my favorite blizzard

drink '-)

I'm making the potato dumplings you posted in a few minutes, can't wait!

Richard, are you still here? what size disc on the ricer do you use for the potatoes? I'm

guessing the small is just too small but not sure about the medium size either. it's for you potato dumpling recipe I mentioned above. I'm starting the water to boil...

TIA

I use the medium size one. they come out smashed...

and they disentegrate. My plan is to keep them as whole as possible, because they fall apart in the process.

Better texture I say.

For anyone counting, just dipped the stick out in the

motorcourt and it says 12". Same 12 inches on the stick when Ben Franklin wrote his prose. Now, where are they at the weather service with their 7 inches????

It's still snowing.
