It's Can-a-rama this weekend. link to Canning Across America.

To celebrate, last night I made sweet cherry jam and sweet cherry chutney..

I believe Melissa posted the chutney recipe. I made it x4 and got 6 jars, it is wondeful!! The jam is very good too, I like it alot but I think I overcooked it just a tad. I will check it tonight and see what the consistence is.

Next up the hugh bowl of little plums in the fridge....

I'm wanting to make pickled okra & nobody sells it anymore.

One vendor at the farmers market had some Saturday but they wanted $3 for just a little handful. I don't get it - okra grows like weeds. Nobody must be planting it anymore. Next year I think I'll do a few plants in pots just for pickling.

Barbara - I saw another one I want to try - Cherry Chipotle jam.

Now I have to remember where I saw it.

My sister had bought A LOT of cherries and she decided to cook some in the crockpot to give me a bunch of pulp to jam with. She told me she didn't pit them first though & she thinks they taste funny. I'll have to think of something to do with them that will downplay the bitter almond flavor.

Melissa, cherry chiptole sounds wonderful, I will look around for it. I still have some cherries

left and was planning on mixing them with a few plums and some blueberries for a mixed jam. But, I would prefer the cherry chiptole. (PS my fingers and nails are still discolored for pitting and chopping 6 lb of cerries!)

we really can't grow them up here---usually too wet and cool early on for them to get a good start.

these most likely are from a greenhouse. I passed them up.

I remember my grade school geography book had a picture of a kid with a cabbage in Alaska

The cabbage was bigger than the child--I never forgot it. I guess the long cool days are ideal for some crops. Of course beans need heat.
