It's January?

strawberries are some of the first plants to green up in the spring for us, even out of the snow.

very hardy and you should get runners soon. I don't know about potted plants, but ours in the ground are like weeds with the spread.

Yes, it's been warm here in the bay area the past couple weeks, stimulating lots of

Spring growth. I'd cover up those lil babies before the birds or other critters get 'em. smileys/wink.gif

Fruit comes first, then the runners. You're a bit ahead of schedule, but what the heck

If you want more plants, when the runners come, sink the pot into the ground, or provide another soil surface for them (more pots, or a flat.)

Given the opportunity to "run" over the soil, they will root by the end of summer. You can transplant them as soon as the weather cools in fall.

You were right -- a neighborhood kid came and picked it, took a bite, then threw it back. smileys/frown.gif

I did take a bite of of the small red bit that was left...it was mighty sweet (and bittersweet to not let it ripen fully).

I had to stop planting herbs in the front yard. Came home one day and someone

had cut my entire in-bloom clump of chives to the ground. Not pulled, as in spur-of-the-moment, but cut...

Yeah, I worry about that-the only small sunny patch to plant this year is in the front yard

I wanted to put in a few herbs, tomatoes, strawberries and the like. I've had some years I come out and my entire lemon tree has been stripped in the night.

Isn't that astonishing? We had 3 fruit trees in front. People would help themselves to peaches to

the extent that one year, we got not a single one.

We used to pick pears each year and share them with about 6 immediate neighbours but there was one couple way down the street who would come daily with a box, when it was obvious that we were home, and fill the box. I confronted her one day and asked why she didn't just come and ask me.....she said she was too embarrassed. Really??
