It's that time of year again....how do you store your spices?

It's time for me to weed out/refresh the spices and storage is as always for me one of the great mysteries of life.

I've never found a great way to do this. I don't have an option to use a drawer, I've got some of those magnetic tins on the side of my fridge from The Container Store which are nice b/c they have a shake/pour option (that I just discovered today), but frankly I wish they made a smaller size, about the size of the small plastic store spice jars. I have a turntable with some and an "oveflow" basket on the counter I dig through. Now I've added some of the Penzy's spices in bags to the mix...yuck, Calgon take me awaaay!

So how do you store your spices?

I have a tiered rack something like yours Joe. I keep the spices in small mason

jars - with white plastic screw-on-tops. I label the tops and sides. I used to have the tupperware containers but didn't like them.

The only ordered place is a plastic, 2 tier lazy susan in a cupboard. It contains the most

frequently used ones. Oh yes, I do have all the "baking spices" together in the bottom of a Glad Wear thingy. It at least sits with the choc. chips, flavorings, baking powder etc.

Horrible chaos here, too. A few 2-tiered lazy Susans,& countless other spices haphazardly sitting in

cabinets. The spices I use most often, I keep on the lazy Susans, but it drives me crazy when I need to find stuff I don't use on a regular basis.

Ha! So familiar! I hate how I waste money buying spices I think I'm out of, only to find them in

multiples later on!

DS installed a stainless steel mounting for my magnetic tins on my pantry door.

I'll try to post a photo -- it works so well! I also ordered some little square jars (glass) with magnets, thinking they would work, since they have a removable shaker on them, but they are too heavy and roll around. I attempted to return them to the Amazon vendor, but never got authorization. Rats.

Not too successful with the color coding, but it turns out not to b e all that important, since the jars are alphabetized.

FYI, seems they make magnetic paint -- see this spice solution (scroll to end)

although her labels everywhere in her kitchen (inside the fridge?) and the misspelled "Powder" Sugar label makes my OCD twitch.

Again, they need to make some of these tins at half the current size (because I have 27 bajillion more spices than space these things would take up and WF's needs to bring back their bulk spice section...sob).

Same here. Two 2-tiers with main spices plus...

plus a third 2-tier with the weird pepper blends and rubs in the back. All on the first shelf of a deep corner cabinet.
And yes, hanging my OCD head, I alphabetize them too.

Maria, the WFs in this area are all bringing back the bulk sections...

the bigger the store the more bulk stuff they have. Also, if you have a Fresh Market near you they have a really nice spice and herb bulk section.

(I bought some big very pretty big speckeled beans in the bulk food section when visiting one of the big stores, I haven't cooked them yet and I have no clue what kind of beans they are now.......LOL!!!)

I have a narrow door in my kitchen, under counter, so we put in 3 roll out shelves

and use them for all my jars of spices and herbs. I have to label them on top of the lid because they are all standing. Works well for me but no matter how much space you have it is never enough. There are also plastic shoebox sized containers in the pantry for all the Penzys plastic bags.........

I made an inventory list of all of my spices when I reorganized my cabinets - it helps

with those ones I use infrequently, so I don't end up with multiple jars of the same thing. Works well for me!
