French Onion Burgers

Ingredients:

2 large Sweet Onions, sliced

1 tbsp. Chopped Garlic

4 tbsp. Butter

2 lb. Regular Ground Beef

1 tbsp. Chopped Fresh Herbs

2 tbsp. Dijon Mustard

1 cup Grated Swiss Cheese

Salt and Pepper to taste

Garnish:

French Stick

Leaf lettuce

Dijon Mustard

Pickles

Grilled Bacon

Method:

In a fry pan sauté the onions and garlic in the butter for 12 to

15 minutes stirring constantly until the onions are golden

brown and caramelized. Remove from the heat and let cool.

In a mixing bowl mix together the ground beef, sautéed onions

and garlic, herbs, mustard and Swiss Cheese. Season to

taste with salt and pepper.

Form into 8 equal oval shaped burgers. Cover and refrigerate

for 1 hour.

On a pre-heated medium high grill, cook the burgers for 5 to 6

minutes per side until medium

Grill the French Bread and top with the French Onion Burger.

Garnish as desired

Makes 8 burgers

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
1 cup Mexican blend of 4 cheeses -- divided
1/2 cup salsa -- divided
1/4 cup crushed tortilla chips
1/4 cup green onions -- thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

In medium bowl, combine ground meat, 3/4 cup of the cheese, 1/4 cup of the salsa, tortilla chips, green onions, cumin, chili powder and garlic salt; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2" patties and grill. Place on grilled hamburger guns and top with remaining cheese and salsa. Serve with lettuce and tomato.

Made this one tonight! Very good. I used all sharp cheddar since that's all I had. I also ...

(cleverly- well, mostly just dumb lucky)had some tortilla chips left from my sandwich at a cafe today that I saved for feeding birds...sorry birdies...

 
Louisa, I think the recipe is calling for the pre shredded bags of cheese

you can buy that says it is a blend of 4 Mexican type cheeses. I have just always used whatever I have on hand which is usually Jack and Cheddar. Works really well. But now I'm going to have to look at the package of pre shredded cheese and see what cheeses they have in it.
