We had a bake sale a couple of weeks ago, so I made this and bagged it in cello bags tied with a pretty ribbon. They sold out smileys/smile.gif

I also made another batch for my son's school function, and hubby asked me to make another batch for his co-workers for Halloween.

Can you tell we love these? They're easy - like making chex mix, but it's something different. I just buy everything from Costco, the nuts, the cranberries, and the pretzels. Sometimes I'll do all pecans, and no almonds. The costco bag of pretzels is 6 lbs, so I'll use 4 lbs for this recipe, and save the rest for eating just plain.

Enjoy!

SUGARED CRANBERRY TRAIL MIX

1 4 lb. bag of pretzels

4 cups of almonds (1/2 of a 2 lb. bag)

4 cups of pecans (1/2 of a 2 lb. bag)

4 cups (1/2 of a 30 oz. bag) dried cranberries

8 large egg whites (about 1 cup)

4 cups white sugar

6 tablespoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350º. Spread pecans and almonds evenly on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until nuts are slightly darker in color. Cool completely on pan.

Reduce oven temperature to 225º.

In two large foil pans, combine the pecans, almonds, pretzels, and cranberries.

In a small bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Pour over pretzel mixture; toss until well coated. In another small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over pretzel mixture; toss until well coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Store in an airtight container.

Sandi, thanks for this recipe, I've been online trying to find something easy and inexpensive

to take to co-workers and this will be perfect. I go to Costco weekly, so I'll pick everything up next week. Think I'll go with the pecans first.
Thanks!!

Ssssh, don't tell my son, but I scrimped on his batch, and left out the nuts...

I think the nuts are the most expensive ingredient, so I went with just pretzels and cranberries in his batch.

It does make a huge batch, and I use two large foil roasting pans.

Our prices were about:

Pretzels, $4.79
Cranberries, $6.99
Pecans, $10.xx

Delighted smiles from happy cranberry-pretzel eaters: Priceless!

Of course, those were the prices for the full bags of stuff, so you could use half the cranberries, and pretzels, and have enough for another pecan-less batch....
