I've had 3 food processors since April...here's my story

In April I posted a note about everyone's favorite food processor, as I was in need of a new one.

Joe said he was disappointed in his Cuisinart and Charlie posted an article that recommended Kitchen Aid.

Having had a Kitchen Aid before my Wolfgang Puck processor died, I thought I'd be happy again with one.

I was using my new KA while my husband was talking to me and I accidentally left a spoon in it. It hung up the blade on the spindle so I had to throw the whole machine away. There was no getting the blade off to get the bowl off. Not nice!

So I ordered another Kitchen Aid. I only had it a few days...I was grinding up some nuts, seeds, chocolate for one my raw treats....the next thing I knew I hear this terrible noise. I opened the machine and the CHEAP blade had come right out of the blade holder. Again, this hung up the blade spindle and it wouldn't come out of the machine for anything and the bowl wouldn't come off the machine.

I wrote Kitchen Aid. They honored the warranty and sent me a new one.

In the meantime, while I was waiting, I decided to buy a Cuisinart. What a difference. Cuisinart has a blade that is riveted to the spindle and those blades go all the way out to the edge of the bowl.

The Kitchen aid has individual blades that are literally slid into the spindle column, nothing holding them that anyone can see. Their blades do not go all the way out to the edge of the bowl. The blade on my machine bent out of the spindle while I was using it.

Everytime I use the KA I'm never sure that I'll ever get the blade off the spindle or the bowl off the machine. There's always a struggle!

I love the Cuisinart. It makes short work of everything and handles heavy chopping. I love it and would recommend it every day over the KA.

There never is a question or hesitation when I take the blade and bowl off the Cuisinart, it comes right out.

If you have a KA and don't struggle with that blade and bowl every time, consider yourself blessed!

I loved my first Cuisinart, circa '91. When it gave out I got another and it just doesn't have

the umphhhhh. My main problem is that bread dough clogs it so easily. It's fine with less gunky things.

Maybe my Costco purchase wasn't the best model Cuisinart has to offer. I'll be wary of KA too now. I wish I could afford a Robocoup!

My DLC-7 was a Christmas gift in 1977, I think. I believe it was the first larger model. I

have bought extra bowls and blades along the way, also the expanded feed tube which I hate, but the basic motor, etc keeps chugging along. There's a hairline crack in the housing. I admit to not using it as much as Joe probably does. I cracked one bowl shredding mozzarella cheese and received another one free. They made me send in my lifetime warranty card though, lol. That was after Cuisinart had been bought out.

I also have a litte-Pro, which is a little smaller and a Mini-Prep which is very small for salad dressings, etc. The Little-Pro gets used the most, it's great for salsa and chopping.

I have the DLC-7 too! The handle is hanging on by a thread, but I still use it....well,

now that I've put it under the counter and can't lift the heavy sucker out with my bad shoulder, I don't anymore...but I could if I wanted too!

DLC-7 - circa 1977

It's still going strong. I hope I have it forever, I was a young bride when I bought it, couldn't afford it, got it anyway and it's been a workhorse. I have all the accessories, replaced bowls a couple of times, and if it ever dies I will buy another on eBay. No new one for me, I'm stuck in the 70's. lol

I also bought Abby Mandel's Cuisinart Cookbooks in the 70's and have loved them as well. You can also find these on ebay.

The clue for these things always seems to be the weight of the motor. Wondering if you washed the

bowl in the dishwasher. ANd then, if the new bowls you bought, were more tolerant of the dishwasher.

I guess that's about when I got mine as well. Maybe a year later. Then I got a DLC7E as well, for another home. Both bowls always went into the machine but I understand this is frowned upon. There was a little crazing as a result and somewhat sticky starts, but I still do it.
