I've never been to a Wegman's. For those of you who shop there, do you love it? The American

Customer Satisfaction Index (what ever that is) has it rated as number 1, tied with Trader Joe's for customer satisfaction. Here, HEB is almost a monopoly. Only other chain choices are Target and Walmart with only two each of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.

I asked this same question a bunch of years ago because when

John was traveling so much with his job he used to go to grocery stores when he had time. He just enjoyed seeing different stores than we have here and he raved about Wegmans ALL THE TIME! I would love to have the chance to go to one because it's sounds fantastic.

I love love love it. I pass by several other grocery stores every week to go to Wegmans

They have a fantastic selection of items, and their prices are good too

Second!! I hate to go out of town for groceries, but have enjoyed the experience and $ savings of going to wegmans.

You walk in, and you smell the coffee; (I don't happen to drink, but it sets the stage)

customers just hang, and read the paper....Then they can go to so many different areas; great cheese selection, wonderful wines, cheap wegman brands, it is an experience. Wonderful customer service. It is different from Trader Joe's. TJs is smaller, (At least by me, so can't give a proper comparison on that) Don't get me wrong, I love TJs, but its different

At the end of a work day, you can go in, and they have so many cooked meals to select or you can purchase all the ingredients in one area to make at home the next day. Its perfect, one stop shopping for a busy chef; you are making stir fry, they have all the meat, seasonings, veggies, oils, sides, etc all located in the same spot.

LOVE, Wegmans~ Just wish it was in my town!!!

It sounds so much like Central Market here in Texas but they stopped expansion after 9 stores. I

wish there were more but I don't think there will be. Central Market is a subsidiary of HEB. Central Market has amazing produce, seafood, meat and bakery departments, lots of bulk food items, including herbs and spices, and many shelf items that aren't available elsewhere. Not sure you can buy toilet paper or paper towels there. Just the most amazing shopping place for someone who loves to cook.

LOVED Central Market when DD lived in San Antonio--and I

really liked HEB also. DD said the joke was that CMs were the GucciB.

I loved Central Market when I was working at LM Aero for 2 weeks. I ate dinner there almost

every night, rotating through the different food stations.

Some nights I had a simple salad and yogurt..I seem to recall the most amazing olive baguette which they kindly warmed up for me.

I am unhappy with our choice of markets here

There used to be two Raley's, and one was near me. it closed down and the bigger one remained open on the other side of town. It is a chore for me to go there, but I fit it into my schedule. Each time I shop there, more and more brands like Del Monte, Muir Glen and other faves are being replaced by Raley's brand.

We have a couple of locally owned markets that are on the gourmet side, but very expensive and out of the way. The rest are markets I do not support such as Winco, super Walmart and Food Max. They are so huge, with product spread out in more than one place, long lines, you have to bag your own groceries, and no carry out when needed.

Trader Joe's is OK for certain things but certainly not every week shopping, and the items I usually buy all the time.

Even the food world is changing and not for the better, it appears.

Sounds like the bigger Whole Foods stores near me.

At one time they even had an Oyster Bar along with the cafe. They took it out. I always wondered why they put one in the middle of the store, like you were just going to go "I'm so tired of pushing this cart, I'm gonna pull up a stool and say hey Joe, get me a ____" Who wants to sit in the middle of the aisles at a bar?

But even the Safeway has a St*rbuck's in it. Is this a CA thing?

I dislike brands being replaced by store brands too...

I find Safeway does a lot of that. They put in a big S near me and it has huge shelves of the same store brand vs. a variety. The only thing I like about them is they deliver. That was a godsend when I had casts on both legs.

Also, I went to Winco in LA and loved the huge bulk section. We don't have them here.

Just don't go gaga like we did and start taking photos!!!! Almost got kicked out

I had read about them in the airline magazine on our way up to Baltimore and so when we drove up through NJ, we deliberately detoured so I could see this amazing store. We were so blown away that we were taking photos. Thank goodness one of they guys in the cheese/olive bar area walked over and asked what we were doing and told us that the store had people watching us thinking we were 'spies' and that security was probably about to descend on us and escort us out - yeah right what spies come in with a Southern accent drooling and taking pictures out in the open? Anyway, it upset hubby so bad that we left immediately.

I think you will find that Wegman's is doing more and more of their own store

brand and less and less of the name brand products. I like to have a choice. When there are only 4 flavors of greek yogurt of a name brand and 2 or 3 shelves, that are at least 6 feet long, full of different Wegman brand yogurt it just drives me to another store.
It is becoming an upscale Aldi. I don't mind Aldi. There is no confusion about what type of store and what type of business they are.
Another thing with Wegman's is they are expanding their selection of prepared food and meals. I like to cook my own food and sometimes the selection of raw, unprepared food is smaller that the ready made.
