I've never cooked a cooked (or otherwise) ham

but I'm leaning that way. My sister says it has to be a Smithfield, but they're huge (only 2 of us) and expensive. Dartagnan's has a 1 1/2 -3 # applewood smoked ham for $29 which sounds doable. How should it be prepared? I know you can just heat it up, but some kind of glaze? Thanks.

Can you go to your supermarket and buy one? Do you have Aldi's?

Most are already cooked and if you put the ham in a roasting pan, "flat" side down", put in a cup of water, seal with foil and bake at 325* for about 2 hours it will work out well.
I don't glaze hams unless I get one of the spiral sliced hams. If you do that, follow those directions.
YOu can mix some brown sugar, cinnamon and cloves and spread on your baked (in the water) ham and slip it in a 350* oven for 30 minutes.
I don't like spiral sliced hams because I prefer meat sliced thinner, but that is my preference.
As for the "smithfield" label, it is a HUGE pork producer and unless you are talking about "country ham" vs. "city ham" (what you are wanting to make), it really isn't necessary to choose that label.
Smithfield country hams do denote a sugar cure (usuallY) which is good for that type.
Our Aldi's currently has hams and I have fixed them often. If you have Aldi's it never hurts to check. The price can't be beat even here in "pork country". ;o)

W do have an Aldi

I'll check it out. My usual grocery store only has hams
at holidays and then they're HUGE. I don't want a country ham, but a city ham and I too don''t really care for the spiral-cut, especially if I'm getting a really small one.
