"So what is the use of a recipe? A recipe is a teaching tool, a guide, a point of departure. Follow it exactly the first time you make the dish. As you make it again and again, you will change it, massage it to fit your own taste and aesthetic. Eventually, it will become your own personal recipe." -JP

I wrote a long response to what MIchael said, but deleted in the interest of civility

to other sites who are not very nice to posters, I say, "Thank you Michael, for being the person you are!"

Michael, I thought it was JP who said the above & U were quoting him. Did I misunderstand yr post?

Oh no Michael, nothing was posted about you on another site.

I had posted a rather long diatribe ( after reading your quote from JP) about how I was treated on another site which I visited for many years. They could be very hurtful when one posted something about a recipe tweak or how your ethnic recipe was NOT ethnic at all. I stayed there for a long time until I realized that it was not healthy for me.

Your post about what JP had to say about recipes and how one can make them their own was so true and how thankful I am to this site that no one criticizes you if you tweak a little, or any number of things we do as humans. I deleted the post because I felt I should. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes, you are right, there is something about someone speaking and the other person

being able to watch their face and hand movements that make the whole experience complete. Not possible with texting and posting. I try to be very careful, but sometimes......smileys/frown.gif

That is one reason I appreciate what a good writer can do with a story when they write a book...

...or an article.

Ernest Hemmingway didn't need emojis!
