serving dish (long and narrow) and several small, individual plates - all very pretty, red with bright stripes. To break it in, I'd like to have a few friends over, but am not too familiar with Mexican food or tapas/Mexican appetizers.

Any ideas for easy, simple but good bite-sized Mexican foods? Should be fun... I don't mind some already-prepared things from the freezer section if I knew what to get.

You might find empanadas in the freezer section and you could make some spicy shrimp such

as shrimp and chorizo tapas.

I tried making empanadas about a month ago and they are very time consuming and need to experiment more. You could sample the store-bought before serving.

Edited to say that most supermarkets carry Goya brand frozen appys and real Spanish chorizo. Often times, you can find another choice for chorizo there too.

Dawn, here is a queso-stuffed jalapeno. I make it with queso fresco buy you could use feta

as in the original recipe. Also, something very poputlar here at the hot food sections in grocery stores are "jalapeno poppers." peppers stuffed with cream cheese and batter-fried.

not really Mexican, but spicy and good, tortilla pinwheels made with just cream cheese and jalapenos

just spread on a large tortilla and roll up and cut in slices. looks nice on a tray. everyone loves these simple appies. I use just sliced jalapenos from a jar. adding some roasted red peppers is nice and colorful too.

Thanks everyone - Melissa, did you have an already prepared idea?

Like the jalapeno ideas - and shrimp too
