Joy of Cooking has just been reprinted. Very affordable now for gifts, not $200-300.

I wonder which "issue" it is. The The big "redo" they did in the 90's was a

bust. Being a loyalist I think the one I got in the 60s is the best! Our son goes to California every year to visit friends who live in Napa near the Rombauer vineyard and gave me a facsimile edition of the original Joy. It is really "cute" with its Art Deco cover. And is SMALL!!

The re-do really, well, I did not appreciate it. Tried to be too trendy I think. Original . . .

(as well as my early 80s edition) gave much more info for those who don't cook and want to, plus lots easily accessed info for those who do cook and want to learn more. And it had a LOT of good base recipes to work with as well as "fancier" stuff.

I still have the re-do, but have not looked at it in years. As for my older 80s (and others) edition, I was just looking through it a week ago.
