Just finished reading - Gesine Bullock-Prado's Book "Confections of a Closet Master Baker, a Memoir"

I've been reading her for years. She has a sharp wit, plenty of self-deprecation and a 3-D mind...

By "3-D" I mean she can mentally see how to geometrically cut cakes so that the end result is almost artlike. I'll post a video to show you what I mean, because I've read her recipe books and while they are very detailed, "seeing" is sometimes easier.

She started out posting under her married name, but after her blog/bakery began getting more famous and she started getting more TV gigs, she added her maiden name back in. They seem like a loving family and her memories of her mother Helga are touching and heartfelt.

I loved it when she was asked why she ran (for exercise). Her first reason is to support the memory of her mother, who also ran, but had died of cancer. Her other reason was so she could eat pizza and drink beer without worrying.

Gotta love the honesty.

They do seem like a great family. I watched a graduation speech with Sandra last year and

she does this thing with her kid. Before they leave the house, they blast music and dance around the house. "It sets you up for how you deal with the world once you leave the house." I love that idea. Another friend of mine does that. She calls it her "exit song." I asked her once what was on her "exit song" play list. "Brass band, mostly." smileys/smile.gif
