Easy reading. Allowed me to entertain the idea of the ways of life in the 70's.

Has anyone ever lived like they did in this book?

PS

I'm 39, so ...

whatever.

Well, she obviously did. What a hoot. She is such a fun writer and interviewee.

On another note, and more to your point of "has anyone ever lived this way", have you read The Ya Ya Sisterhood? That is essentially a TRUE story, and yes, they did live that way. My neighbor is from Alexandria, LA and knew the people in that book, in spite of the fact Rebecca Wells says it is "fiction".

she came to Portland last year to promote her new book, (Diamonds and Garlic?, something like that)>

The book is about her time as food critic for the NYTimes, she had us all laughing as well as gasping in horror as she told of wearing elaborate disguises in order to not be recognized to avoid getting special treatment. Boy, did she ever not get special treatment, she was treated horribly in some of the top restaurants.

I have read The Divine Secrets. I loved the book but was

disappointed with the movie. That's no surprise- a book is always better than a movie in my opinion. That's interesting about Ya Ya's being ture to life.

is that the book where her friend tenderized conch by...

putting it in a mesh bag and driving over it a few times with his chevy impala?

Ruth Reichl's books are fabulous..i've read all of them and loved them..

They are so funny and descriptive. The 2nd one, is Comfort me With Apples
and the most recent is Garlic and Sapphires.
I wished I had heard about it when she had come to Minneapolis, I would have loved to hear her speak.
