Just found the cutest thing at TJ's - a guacamole kit!

It's one of their produce boxes filled with two ripe avocados (the only ripe ones in the store per the produce gal), garlic, shallots, a jalapeno, a tomato and a lime, for $3.49.

I just had to get it, since I'm making the milk roasted chicken tonight and would love to make chicken tacos later in the week. Or maybe huevos rancheros for breakfast.

Sometimes it's the little things that make you the happiest!

Great score! I was all excited this evening from my trip to my little market around

the corner. For $5.90 I got: 1 1/2 lbs pork chops, 5 big limes, a bunch of cilantro, 2 white onions, a big perfect avocado, a big bunch of purslane, 2 packages of achiote paste. I was feeling so smug! Got to find something exciting to do with the purslane (or verdolago as it is called at the market).

What a nice bargain that is, and sounds like a delicious dinner. I haven't used purslane, or

smelled it, how fascinating! I love discovering new herbs smileys/bigsmile.gif

I've had one or two with dark spots, I buy them hard as rocks and leave them in a

small paper bag until ripe. I've found they don't have to be as soft as I used to think they should be to make good guacamole. About the dark spots, I've experienced the same thing with avocados costing much more from other sources.
