Just made Alton Brown's/Sally's Apple Cake with the assistance of wigs. I made

a half-recipe and that ended up a solid 2" high 8" cake round.

Question is: Does it "need" the icing? Half is going to the library and I wondered about the rummy smell.

For ME, I want it. It is sweet and you definitely get the rum which

I liked. For others? I would at least do a drizzle and tell them it has the rum in the icing. Maybe some people wouldn't want any booze.

Yes, it needs the rum glaze.....it is delicious and really compliments the cake

As far as the rum smell....it is vey plesant and not at all offensive. You use very little for the size of cake it makes. Enjoy!

I would not omit the rum.... just do what I did, place a note next to the cake...
