Just out of the oven Gotta share the beauty of good old-fashioned French Bread

To my eye (and olfactory senses too) there is nothing quite so lovely as the anticipation of pulling a beautiful loaf of bread out of the oven. It is almost better than eating it.....well, maybe not because eating it is most definitely better than just looking at it. Last evening while making a pot of soup I made French Bread and just had to share it with you. It was good and crusty. Wish you could have had some!http://s56.photobucket.com/user/Finer_Kitchens/media/IMG_0621_1.jpg

Great idea Pat! What a perfect combo. Cathy--did you use a no-knead or traditional method?

There's a lot to be said for that! The "proof" is in the picture. smileys/smile.gif Thanks!

1976 Abby Mandel recipe

It is simple: 2-1/2 c all purpose flour, 1/2 c cake flour, 1 tsp yeast, 1 tsp salt, 1 c hot water. mix, knead, let rise until doubled. Punch down, roll out and form loaf. Place on cookie sheet sprinkled with corn meal. Slash top, let rise until doubled, glaze with mixture of beaten egg + 1/2 tsp salt. Bake at 400 degrees for about 30 min. I put a pan in the bottom of the oven with about 2 c boiling water in it.
