our daughter has been challenged for the last 2 years w major GI issues. After lots of tests, meds, nutritional changes, we are still quite a bit at a loss. Personally, it has been hard for me, as my focus on family has always been about food. I grew up with family dinners, sunday dinners, etc. They are not a fun place for our daughter. Sitting around food, that she may or may not digest well is a source of discomfort.

Hard to explain / express sadness and concern when you prepare a "nutritionist approved" meal, only to hear your daughter struggling in the bathroom afterwords. Very unsettling.

Our daughter is now in college. She opted to stay close, so DH is able to visit her every week and bring her home made stuff from me, which is really helping her. I am learning what works for her, And have learned that meals are not an "experience".

Since it is just our son and DH, I am back to having fun in the kitchen again during the week.

Look forward to sharing recipes and catching up in the archives on the latest.

I have missed my friends here.....

Best,

Barb

I am so very sad to read about your DD and her health issues. Starting in May 1993 immediately

after surgery for colon cancer which was followed by 6 months of chemotherapy, I was on special diets continually. Very gradually after about a year or so, my GI tract finally healed and settled down so I was eventually able to eat normally again. During that year I could only tolerate soft & bland food items (oatmeal w/ sugar; boiled potatoes mashed with a fork and a little broth added; plain cooked pasta, etc.). Cooking--if you can even call it that(!)--was certainly NO FUN then.

If I am reading your post correctly, the doctors are not even sure what your daughter's problem is. Now that is the PITS! I really hope they will soon be able to accurately diagnose her situation so you get to the bottom of what is causing her digestive upsets. She is so very young to have this happening to her.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. It's very nice to see you back at FK again! Wigs

Glad to "see" you, Barb! So sorry to hear about your daughter

I have been cooking way more due to DH's recent heart diagnoses. Rapid weight loss is our goal so every bite needs to be the right one. Colleen
