Just watched Jeff Mauro (the sandwich king) on Food Network. He said

Well-known member
that cumin was the seed of the cilantro plant! Do they no longer have editors at FN? Not as if it's a live show.

I stopped watching this drivel a long time ago...

When I need a food program fix, I pull out one of my Julia Child "The French Chef" DVDs and just wallow in the fabulousness of it.

I cannot stand that guy. He is like the male version of Anne Burrell. Acckkk!

They talk to their food way too much. If I talk to my ingredients while cooking, I am usually swearing at the plastic wrappings I cannot open or the metal pull tabs that break off while trying to open them.
I do like Guy Fieri's shows, Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, and I like his other show Guy's Big Bite.

I never watch Food TV anymore. Haven't in years. I do't even know who these people are who are on it

I skipped the Sunset Celebration Weekend last week because the star chef was Guy Ferrari. Last year it was Rick Bayless. I have no need to watch some loud talker dive food specialist.

No thanks.

Maybe you should try watching it. Guy isn't my favorite, but he does highlight

some very good cooks and "dives" around the states. I have seen so much creativity on that show, a lot of small restaurants where people are passionate about what they do, and he brings it to our attention. Just saying.

I hate hate hate Anne Burrell, but I like Jeff - he has a lot of passion for what he does, he's

very down-to-earth, and many of his recipes sound great.
On the other hand, I find Anne Burrell totally obnoxious.

For the most part, I have stopped watching the cooking shows, I find that I get more inspriration

here on eat.at than the cooking shows.

He may have simply misspoke...I don't even know of him but sometimes I notice

folks getting cilantro and parsley mixed up. Actually, Cumin is the dried seed of the herb Cuminum cyminum, a member of the parsley family.

The Food Network has it's charms, mainly for entertainment. I still love Ina Garten, and Giada. I have tried many of their recipes, and all have been very nice. Ina is probably the most down to earth.

There's no telling what's gonna come out of your mouth when speaking extemporaneously in front of

people or, even worse, on television. It's a completely out of body experience.

I think Emeril best exemplified the tongue-tied. As we watched, his on-air vocabulary was reduced to sound effects ("Bam") and ubiquitous catch phrases ("Take it up a notch!"). I was so disappointed FN let him to appear to be such a buffoon 'cause his restaurant food was outstanding. Ah, showbiz.
