Just watched Julia Child beat the bejeesus out of her croissant dough.

Then she beat the bejeesus out of the butter. This woman found a way to vent anger issues while still making an afternoon snack.

Score one for her!

Then she made small croissants that looked EXACTLY like MINE. Well, my Round 2 at least.

I'm not feeling half so bad now.

Tomorrow I may just take one of my five rolling pins and beat up a stick of butter.

LOL. BTW - the croissant recipe I'm going to try is from Cenk Sonmezsoy, "The Artful Baker"

just picked up my copy from the library last night: a big, gorgeous book!

I was so excited to read it that I couldn't sleep past 3:30 a.m and spent from 3:30 to 5:30 absorbed in it - LOL!

Damn. Not a single copy in the entire state. That is a beautiful book...with some

pretty impressive reviewers (Dorie Greenspan, David Lebovitz, my Rosie (Beranbaum), Nick Malgieri. I own cookbooks from all of them.

Damn. Damn. Damn. I put myself on a NO BOOK BUYS constraint since moving, considering all of my books with a few exceptions are packed and stored.

I may have to plead with my local library to buy it. The recent blueberry almond cakes, Swiss chocolate cake balls, and pecan oatmeal cookie donations will hopefully help.

Worth buying it and I know that I will end up doing so for the following reasons:

1) He's quite amusing in his writing - the many page introduction as well intro's for each recipe
2) He is fastidious regarding the hows, whys and whats of each recipe.
3) His followers include the iconic bakers you mentioned and more
4) His photograhy is exquisite
5) THE RECIPES LOOK FABULOUS!

The croissants I made were from Peter Rinehart — artisan bread every day

They looked good, but they tasted robbery and I didn’t get a good inside swirl. However, it obviously was entirely user error because at our bread made up, yes I go to a bread meet up, someone else made them and they were perfect using the same recipe. So, yes apparently you can fail using a Peter Reinhart recipe, because I went all out and accomplished that!

Also, I saw a recent baking with Julia where she made croissants and it was a much more updated version than the one you posted. However, I think were she to do them now, they would be improved even more in the how to.

The next time I try, which will probably be never because I’m Not as big of a croissant fan to put in this much work, but I think I would try G’s.

Good luck, I await your results.

Oh and Ms Phelps. Your mission, Marilyn, should you choose to accept it, ... As always, should you or any of your Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This post will self-destruct in 10 seconds.
