Karen, the Butternut Salad is good but the pomegranate tip is priceless

Thanks for posting the salad recipe- I made it, used wild rice instead of barley and it was good.

The tip on how to easily and successfully get pomegranate seeds out was totally priceless. It worked perfectly! I have always struggled with the darn things- wanted to use them more but what a mess I usually ended up with. No more Now I can get every one of those little jewels out and use them.

Thanks for the report. Those darn pomegranate are so messy. Trader Joe's

has the little red jewels in a clam shell and they work great for me. There is a local farm here that grows pomegranates, one can go there, pick them and the farmer will juice them for you in their huge machine. Only takes a few minutes. There is nothing like fresh pomegranate jucie.

Is this the tip where you hold half in your hand, facing down-ward? And then whack it with a rolling

pin to pop out the seeds? I got that tip from PLENTY...brilliant. And very venting. You can picture ANYONE'S head on that pomegranate hemisphere.

We had the salad for dinner tonight using spring mix" and it collapsed a bit too much. Will pick up spinach and try more tomorrow.

I do think they must have either photoshopped that dressing or used clear maple syrup, because there is no way 2 TBL of orange juice brings out that level of color.
Taste was fine though.

Help me here...

I totally don't get pomegranate seeds. For me it's like eating seeded grape and crunching on the seeds. Totally nasty. I love crunch, but I'm just missing something here apparently.

Richard, I am with you! They get stuck in between my teeth, too crunchy and make a mess!

Try telling that to Phyllis the Parrot. She will tell you about her favorite fruit.

This is the reason I deal with pomegranates. Our parrot Phyllis is MAD for pomegranate; I dare say it is her favorite thing in life. So much so that we planted a pomegranate tree a few years ago. It is not producing yet but I expect to save a lot of $ when it does as pomegranates are expensive here. I don't like the seeds either but do enjoy the juice when it is fresh.

Phyllis gets the juice out and spits out the seeds. Me too.

That was my smile for the day!! Gotta love Phyllis! I have to admit that the seeds are really

pretty! (Although not when spit out! : )))

She's singing along with James Brown right now. She loves Motown. Sings with vibrato and abandon.

Well, I love them. On Halloween as kids our neighbor each gave us one off their tree and

we looked forward to it every year. Love them! Been thinking of putting in a tree.

Pom seeds in salads and pom sauce on salmon....yum!
