Last minute Halloween idea- Spooky Spider Eggs

too darn cute!! healthy treat coming to work on Friday!

I made some "bear claw" chocolates, like turtles but with roasted whole almonds sticking out the top for the claws. I tried to buy some from the local chocolate shop, but no luck, so darned if I didn't make my own to send to the grandkids. covered them all with soft caramel(just melted kraft) and dark chocolate and then half with white chocolate over the dark for polar bear claws. too fun.

Ang, for those of us (ME) who are candy impaired,

could you please explain the process you used to make these? This sounds really cute for gift baskets. Oh, and could you direct me to your Peanut Butter Cup brownies or cookies? I found them before, but now I cannot find them again. Both Dawns are search-impaired. smileys/smile.gif Thanks!

Reeses cup cookies linked. more a method than a recipe.

I have used peanutbutter cookie dough or sugar cookie dough or brownie batter for the mini muffins. just roll the cookie dough in walnut sized balls and plop in tins, or spoon brownie batter into tins. I have started to use the small mini muffin liners to keep them from sticking, but the silicone forms work OK without. the white chocolate reeses are nice with brownie mix and regular chocolate with light colored dough. kids love sprinkles on top, for adults I drizzle with white or dark chocolate. Some recipes call for freezing the reeses before pressing them in, but I have never found a need to do this. you want then to melt a bit into the cookie, but they still keep their shape.

here's what I did for the chocolate "bear claws"

I toasted some pecans and some whole almonds, then roughly chopped the pecans and put about a heaping tablespoon in mounds on parchment paper. I melted Kraft Caramels with some cream( just a bit to keep the caramel a bit softer after it set, maybe 2 T for about 20 caramels). also melted some Trader Joes 72% pound plus chocolate with some milk chocolate to sweeten it a bit---semi sweet would be prefect for this, with a bit of cream. And also melted some white chocolate with a bit of cream. Assembly: poured a heaping T of slightly warm caramel over the pecans and gently guided it to cover most of the pecans. set the tray out on the back porch to cool off for about 15 minutes. then dipped whole almonds into a bit of caramel, rounded end only, and stuck 3-4 into the top of the "paw". spooned some dark chocolate over the caramel and to cover the almonds where they connected with the "paw". set the pan outside again to cool. then for half of them I spooned some white chocolate over the dark for polar bear claws. YOu could just cover the caramel with white chocolate and not the double cover of white over dark, but polar bear fur/hide is white with black underneath, so that's what I did, and more chocolate is better than less, right? easy. just call me Sandra Lee----aaackkkk. only Sandra Lee would have taken a picture before mailing them off, and she'd have a cocktail to share too.

A spider THAT BIG dropped out of the ceiling A/C vent in my kitchen. Freaked me out. By

the time I ran to get Larry (big spider wuss that I am), it had disappeared.

Which made the situation even WORSE, because now he was on the ground--in MY kitchen--and had gone stealth.

{{{shudder}}}

I'm pretty sure warm butter wouldn't scare this guy out. I'm pretty sure he was a stunt double for

the "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie.

Thanks Ang, I made a bunch of desserts yesterday for the teachers

and everything turned out great. I am going to post the recipes that I made. Thanks for the instructions.

Cathy, I made a tray of these and they were a huge hit. too fun! I gave them red pimento eyes.
