Last night was our annual Margarita and Sangria Party... might need to change it to pinterest party

Almost all the things I served came from or were inspired by something I found on Pinterest. smileys/smile.gif

I served an interesting mini crab cake that was baked in mini-muffin tins. It was unusual in that the filling used cream cheese and sour cream, but I tweaked it a bit plus I tripled (at least) the amount of crab that went in and they were the hit of the party. I also served them with a dollop of cilantro-lime aioli.

I also served 2 loaves of crack bread, which met it's usual demise. Mussels with andouille sausage and kale was my favorite of the night.

But dessert was a blast! I bought 6 ceramic planting pots (4.5 inches wide) and dropped a can of sterno in each one. I served a s'mores buffet with 3 different kinds of graham crackers, plus fudge-striped cookies, plus pretzel thins (my fave) and had rolos, recess cups, hershey bars, andes mints, bananas, "stuffed raspberries," and toasted coconut as well. People toasted marshmallows right at the table and then built their own s'mores at the buffet. I even had menu suggestions on a chalkboard. It was super interactive, and people LOVED it. Fun!

Menu:

Margaritas

Sangria

Mini Crab Cakes with Cilantro-Lime Aioli

Kielbasa Dough Bites with Sweet & Hot Mustard Dip

Artichoke Dip Stuffed Bread

Crack Bread

Mussels with Andouille Sausage and Kale

Caprese "Lollipops" with Basil Vinaigrette Dip

S'Mores Bar

I certainly hope--as a good hostess--you provided a nice bowl of ashes for the marshmallows?

It wasn't Girl Scout Summer Camp Fire Circle Time if I wasn't searing the flesh off the roof off my mouth with a burnt, ash-covered marshmallow.

Ya...let those good times roll.

Very clever idea! We make smores frequently, but nothing that elaborate. I will definitely use

your suggestions. What menu suggestions did you come up with?

Thanks for pointing out pinterest, I have enjoyed perusing it from time to time.

S'mores Menu

I found some s'more suggestions online and then created the buffet. I labeled the chalkboard "Try S'More!" and put the following suggestions below that

The Elvis
graham crackers/marshmallow/recess cup/sliced banana

The Grasshopper
chocolate graham crackers/marshmallow/Andes mint

The Samoa
Fudge-Striped Cookies/marshmallow/Hershey's Bar/toasted coconut

Mexican Hot Chocolate
Cinnamon Grahams/marshmallow/Hershey's bar

Salted Caramel
Pretzel Thins/Marshmallow/Rolo

We found that if you pushed the rolo into the marshmallow right after roasting it got perfectly melty. You could also use Ghiradelli chocolate caramels if you wanted a thinner candy. Really, I can't stress enough what a big hit the whole thing was. Wish I could take credit for the idea, but I totally stole it off pinterest. smileys/smile.gif
