Here's what we had for our sedar dinner at my in-laws.

Matza ball chicken soup. Some people had this for dessert as well! my contribution

Salads and sides - roasted eggplant, squash , spicy

carrots, potato &veg. patties, mangold, and probably a

few I missed all made by my d-i-l's mother- a great cook.

Spicy moroccan fish-

Slow cooked stuffed leg of lamb.

cooked artichoke bottoms and lima beans.

Artichoke bottoms stuffed with meat patties in a lemon sauce.

Desert - Strawberry shortcake - me

Artichokes.

What a meal!! So happy my in laws are such great cooks.

Sounds delish! We had wasabi salmon at ours!

My mom, who is still in Florida for another month, made chicken soup for our before she left and stock our freezers - delish. This summer she is giving me, my sisters and all the grandchildren a chicken soup making lesson - mine never turns out as good as hers.

What a lovely menu! dh always LOVES matzo ball soup. Seriously, one of his favorites.

It made me smile when I saw that it was your contribution. : )

I love slow cooked meats, but I do not think of them as "stuffed". Curious about the recipe. Did it fall apart and kind of meld together?

Enjoy Passover!

Elaine, how did you do strawberry shortcake without flour and whipped cream?

I saw a cooking show that whipped up brown rice syrup -just that and nothing else - and it looked just like soft whipped cream. I've also seen it done with the thick part of coconut milk but I haven't tried it.

I LOVE Passover food!

As I don't really celebrate anymore with others, I relish my occasional gefilte fish with horseradish (gefilte fish is a "vehicle" food for horseradish - red, of course). By myself I could never get through a whole brisket, or lamb, so this year I just opted for making some individual meatloafs.

But I can't survive without making my Mom's Matzoh Kugel. I don't like sweet sides; I don't like sides with nuts, but I can't live without this at Passover.

BEBE’S PASSOVER MATZOH KUGEL*

3 MATZOS
6 EGGS
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/2 TSP. SALT

4 TART APPLES SHREDDED
GRATED RIND 1 ORANGE
CINNAMON/SUGAR MIXTURE
1/4 CUP BUTTER/SCHMALTZ

CRUMBLE MATZO INTO A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER & SOAK UNTIL SOFT. SQUEEZE OUT ALL EXCESS MOISTURE. BEAT EGGS, ADD SUGAR, SALT AND CINNAMON AND CONTINUE BEATING UNTIL WELL BLENDED. STIR CRUMBLED MATZO, RAISINS, ALMONDS, APPLES, AND ORANGE RIND INTO EGG MIXTURE. PLACE IN WELL GREASED CASSEROLE. SPRINKLE WITH CINNAMON/SUGAR MIXTURE AND POUR MELTED BUTTER OVER.

BAKE 350 ABOUT 45 MINUTES.

Here's the recipe for the cake part - as to Whipped cream - I

use it. Our family is not kosher although we do observe
pessach tradition re no bread. There were religious guests but desert is served later (because you eat so much!) and they are fine with it.

Florence Greenberg from her 1936 cookbook (was my Grandmothers) -Strawberry Shortcake with Matzoth meal

Beat til very lite the yolks of 4 eggs and 3/4 c. sugar; add rind of 1/2 lemon, a pinch of salt , 1/2 c. sifted matza meal, and last the stiffly beaten whites of the eggs. Bake in 2 shallow pans in moderate oven.
When cold lay a cake on platter, spread thickly with strawberries that have been well sugared. Put the other layer on top. Spread over top and sides with cream that has been sweetened flavored and whipped very stiff.
My tweeks - I do a round layer cake, add a lite spread of whipped cream on 1st layer. I only very litely put a bit of
sugar in berries and none at all in my whipped cream.
I top the cake with strawberries standing up - we have some huge ones and that makes it look even better.

Cheez, check out the link in Steve's post below - smitten has a recipe for whipped cream replacement

For all those who helped with ideas up at 20412, here is what I ended up making

Flourless chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. For something with 1 lb 5 oz of chocolate in it, I was a little disappointed, although it disappeared.

Gluten free (wheat less) sour cherry pie. A definite hit, which I was worried about because I hadn't made a cherry pie in years and I just winged the filling smileys/smile.gif

It actually looked better before it baked as the cherry filling bubbled up around the edges
