Made this last night:
Grapefruit Basil Martini
3 oz good vodka (Grey Goose, Kettle One, Stoli)
2 oz freshly squeezed red or white grapefruit juice (it is very difficult finding fresh grapefruits in Florida!!)
3/4 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
3 basil leaves
Splash of lemon-lime soda (7-up)
Use a citrus peel stripper to get a 5-7 inch long strip of grapefruit peel, wrap around a chopstick and wrap tightly in plastic wrap.
Pour vodka, juice, and Elderflower Liqueur in a shaker with ice and add basil leaves. Shake.
Pour into a large chilled martini glass, add a splash of 7-up, hang the grapefruit spiral on the edge and float a couple of fresh basil leaves.
This makes one powerful martini that goes down easily. (Or it can be shared if your martini glasses are normal mortal size)
