Having a major problem. After being on the computer for 10 min. or so I get an box that pops up and says IE has encountered a problem etc. Has the "send, don't send" box on the bottom. Then the computer freezes and the tower has to be shut down.

Found the file and figured I'd delet it but it won't let me do it. Says the location of the file is unavailable. Any clues as to what I should do? Here's the file

EI just pushed out Version 8 to my computer and didn't give me an option to cancel the push. Maybe

your computer did the same? Can you click on it, then read "ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER" and check the version.

Hi - it looks like that's a file specific to your computer. Only suggestion I would have is

to do a system restore to get back to the latest saved restoration point (does it automatically, so don't worry if you haven't made one lately) that you can. Maybe some sort of spyware put something on your computer recently, and it's causing a systray error.

'Googled and found the attached link:

Good luck.

Don't do it!!! What I would do is run my virus protection software and

I would download Malwarebyes which is recommended free and safe and run that as well. Don't be fast to buy anything.

I suggest you uninstall IE and reinstall. You may have to go to IE8 but I have had no problems.

Did you try a system restore yet, Cyn? Removes all viruses that have invaded

since things were working correctly. At least that's been my experience. I do it about once a month.

Start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore/restore my computer to an earlier time

More than likely when you click on the calendar, you'll see that within a week or so, a restoration point has been set. I'd click on the last one and keep hitting "next". It may take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, but it sure does clear out a lot of junk!

There is also a free trial issue here (link) but careful not to delete anything you

aren't sure is spyware. It sounds to me like some spyware is putting the whammy on your opening applications (systray). A professional might be what you need if a Window Wash and/or system restore doesn't clear it away.

Can't hurt to try deleteing all your temp files as a start

Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools

Click on the Tools menu and then click Internet Options

Select the General Tab

Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files

and clean-up with some freeware such as AVG virus and ad-aware, spybot, ccleaner.

But from this link it looks like appcompat refers to an application compatability problem.

Cyn, I just had to do a system restore and it worked great.

It had been a long time since I had run my Spybot program and decided to run it yesterday morning. I deleted one of the registry files that I should not have and spent the better part of the day trying to get my computer up and running. I was finally able to get to system restore (in accessories) and restore it to last Saturday. It removed the Spybot program and you don't lose any of your saved files or email. I would give it a try before you take it to a pro.
