Looking for ideas or suggestions regarding wall treatments please....

I have a wall that is in need of something being done to it. It is a small wall 6' x 12' foot high or so,in the living room facing the sea and separating the kitchen. It does not reach the ceiling. It is a center piece with a small half moon table and mirror above...we may move the mirror.

I'm thinking of doing either a fabric or hessian type covering or perhaps a tissue paper type finish...anyone with experience or even having seen one somewhere please give me ideas. Many thanks.

more info, please joanie....what is the "weight" of the room?

Are you looking for something sea-ish and lightweight...or a heavier look? (there are great faux leather wall treatments you can do with brown paper).

Will a major wall treatment take away from the view?

Is there a view opposite that you can take advantage of by adding more mirrors and reflective paint (or glossing the wall).

Do you want anything up against it?

Is the wall made up of studs? I've seen "thru niches" that lets light through but allows for structural support.

Or add pearl gloss to your paint and hang a large candle sculpture....light will bounce off the wall.

I've use a dual paint roller to get a faux Tuscan look. Not sure what your house colors are, but sea blue and a whitish teal might be nice, with pieces of sea glass and small shells embedded in a gesso base first.

Check your library for Debbie Travis books...lots of interesting painting ideas there.

Hi Mar.....

The faux look of leather sounds great but maybe a bit heavy.
I am steering away from Cape Sea Cottage look, however I am quite African/Caribbean/Bali teak furniture sort of thing (Dutch Colonial perhaps)
Blues are everywhere but the walls must be nutural that is why we thought a hessian type wallpaper would be good but I can't find any...went to the shop in the UK that I found online. I found the cost of shipping that here was too exhorbitant!
There will be a table, 1/2 moon, against it and I have a lot of brass for that table and a mirror above. It is a small wall but in the center of the room and needs a treatment that is not white.
Do you or anyone know how fabric stretched and then liquid starched to the board would turn out like? I have this idea that I could attach this board with wood trim around it to this wall.
I wish I could take a picture of the wall and put it on here but am not having success!

Sure, I'm all for covering walls with French fabrics, but I bet they're cheaper

in the French Caribbean than in my California store.

hey Joanie, if you're considering fabric, I have one question... do you have a cat? '-))

Thank you all for the links and suggestions....cat???...well, it looks like one but....

acts like our dog!. I'm not a cat person but this one arrived as a tiny scrawny thing and has taken over the household. The worst it does is bring in HUGE rats and lizards and dismemebers them on the rugs!!! Urgh! THAT is why I dont like these critters.
But it does go walking with me and takes a keen interest in gardening with me. Sits alongside the dog waiting for it's food and shakes paw as the dog does. Strange animal.

Sounds lovable. But does he like to scratch??? especially walls? I've seen a

beautiful silk wallpaper, expensive and new, completely torn down by a beloved cat. He was so forgiven and could do no wrong, so the wallpaper had to go, not him.
