Looking to get a new blender to replace my 'antique' of 30 years...

I've never been happy with it, but don't use it often - hence the reason I've kept it so long. There are just so many choices out there. I don't need a $500 professional model - just something that smoothly blends stuff like sauces and shakes without gobs of stuff left under the blades.

Any comments on these?

Oster Beehive Blender

KitchenAid 6-speed, KSB560

KitchenAid 3-speed, KSB540ER

Hamilton Beach Wave Maker 10-speed, 50161WV

Kalorik BL Blender, 16909

I think the one Cooks Illustrated recommended is the Kitchenaid blender (Pro Line Chef's model,)

I don't care for my KA, the bottom of the bowl is too wide, and is not efficient

enough in blending. Also, it is very easy to re-assemble it just a bit off kilter after cleaning, and you don't discover it until you're mid-blend on the next project - ugh!

I've had better luck with a "cheap-o" Black and Decker.

Lisa, I have that wide bottom KA as well, it's great for frozen drinks, but had to get a

narrow bottomed for other uses.

CI calls KitchenAid 5-Speed Model KSB580 "Highly Recommended" and Kalorik BL

Model 16909 "Recommended".

A "cheaper version" of the KA is model KSB560.

I had a KA blender that was a complete dud. Obviously it couldn't have been either of these models.
