Lost my culinary mojo

I'm burnt out from the 1,600 "trial by cookie scoop" wedding event, not sleeping at Mom's because Mom is 95 and roams around at 3 in the morning and ten-hour drives back and forth to Pittsburgh twice within 5 weeks. But I'm back in NC and thought things would even out.

Apparently not, so maybe that accounts for my inability to cook anything remotely satisfying. I've been on a fried chicken fest lately: Popeye's, Chick-Fil-A, McDonalds, Bojangles, Hardees and Wendy's. Don't know why...I've given up trying to figure my brain out. But I also realized I should figure out frying chicken once and for all. Because I sucked at it the last few times I tried.

And it turns out I still suck at it. Only now my house smells greasy...and I hate that.

Then I tried something simpler: hard-boiled eggs, the steaming concept which I had previously nailed. Yep...that's gone too...along with my waist (see fried chicken issue above). Now there are 2 dozen messy shell-stuck hard-boiled eggs in the refrigerator. Why? Because I tried it again after screwing up the first dozen.

Do I ever learn? No...obviously I do not.

I just made banana bread--it's in the oven and I don't have a lot of hope there.
(sigh)

Come back, little mojo. I miss you.

Marilyn, it will come back but until then your mind and body is saying "rest and pamper thyself". You have been on a 'taking care of others' marathon for so long... please put some of that beautiful, generous caring towards yourself.

“Then I tried something simpler: hard-boiled eggs,”

Ummm, no that’s not simpler. We know this as we’ve all done the stuck on shell too many times. My sister has my aunt’s egg cooker from about 1930. Guess how it cooks? It steams them and tells you when they’re ready. They figured it out in 1930, then around 1950 told us to boil them in water. Then add vinegar. Then pull off the heat. I’ve even pricked them with a pin, per Jacques Pépin…before I tried steaming. Steaming works best, but if you don’t do it often you’ll still end up with embarrassingly sad deviled eggs.

You need to recover more from the crazy cookie caper. That was a herculean effort!

You will get your mojo back, don’t worry.
When I get like that, I concentrate on making some easy delish recipes. I also make pickles, refrigerator-type when I don’t feel the “oven lovin”, and they always turn out.
If you need some recipes let me know. I just made some Alta Vista Mexican carrots and we can’t keep out of them.
Hang in there! 🤓
