Lots of smoky air, but seems to be clearing up a bit today. We had large ash

flakes falling on our house but it was from further north of us. Most are isolated smaller fires but very many to deal with.

My home is ok, closest fire 20 minutes away. Have been on east coast 11 days, flying home July 1.

So sad all these fires. Thanks for checking in.

Smoke and haze is over most of Mendocino, Lake, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, (more)

Marin and San Francisco counties.
Many fires are still not contained; some like the Walker Ridge Fire on the Lake/Colusa county line have grown from 500 acres to 14,000 acres.
Some are smaller and more controlled.
The fire men are overwhelmed and working long shifts and being sent from fire to fire. Mendocine has over 100 fires and most are not being actively fought.
Most of the fires are in areas with few houses, buildings, vineyards, etc.
The air quality is so poor that people are advised to stay in, close windows and not let the smoke into their houses.
People miles from an active fire are reporting smoke smell in their closed up houses; my car sat for two days in the haze and now has the distinctive smoke smell.
Many homes in Big Sur were destroyed yesterday in a "new" fire. homes in Watsonville were burned by a fire along Hwy 101.
Right now, in San Francisco, I can smell smoke and the sky is a light gray.

bay area

Most of the fires are an hour north of us in Napa. Whine............ there go the wine prices right along with gas prices!
We have alot of smoke here too. Somebody load up some of the water in the midwest and dump it here!

Sending good thoughts to all of you...

the fires are bad, but the smoke is really bad too. I hope the fires are contained soon, and some "friendly" breezes come through to clear up your air.

Cars covered with ash/smoke filled air here in South Bay...

Last weekend the smoke was so thick on Friday it got dark about 2 hours early and my white car had changed to completely gray by the next morning. It's not that heavy here anymore but it's like brown/red fog - plus you can't see the hills that are less than a 10 min drive and you can really smell it depending on the wind. The news just said we have 1420 fires in N CA from the dry lightening last weekend and are predicting a chance of more tonight. They've been advising folks to stay inside.

On the 4th I'm going to the coast to a freinds new beach house south of Aptos if you know the area (the public firework displays have been canceled btw). There was a fire right across the hwy from there but I think it is contained. Big Sur is still out of control but I think the ones in the Santa Cruz mtns/Morgan Hill are out or contained; there are more in the north now I think - I can't keep up anymore. We've also had numerous smaller ones closer in. Bless all our firefighters - they must be very tired by now!

Just outside the Concow area in Butte County...but we're fine.

The Humbolt fire 3 weeks ago was more of a threat that this one is, but we're still keeping a weather eye out. Another thunderstorm is due through today, and that's how all these got started last week. It sure is smoky, but we're doing fine.

My good thoughts and prayers go out to you all. I know first hand

how frightening those fires can be. Take care and keep safe.

From Redding CA area

We have fires all around us in the mountains and foothills. The smoke in Redding is bad and we must stay inside with a/c on. Lots of sports activities have been cancelled. Dry lightening started over 150 fires last Saturday. Every night the smoke rolls in. I am not seeing the usual walkers every morning and have stopped walking myself. We are praying the wonderful fire fighters can get a grip on the fires and save the small mountain communities.

I live further south, but am in Morro Bay/SLO area now - we can smell the smoke here

in the Central Coast. We were at Hearst Castle today - one of the tour guides said that yesterday afternoon they could not see the ocean from the castle because of the smoke- yikes!
